A stove top whistling kettle gives your kitchen a touch of charisma and make an ideal addition to kitchen both old and new. In days gone by whistling kettles were the most common sort of kettle before cordless kettles made it onto the market in the 1980's.

There is a huge range of whistling kettles to choose from, including the more traditional designs to more modern and contemporary kettles as well. The vast range of kettles available is also down to the fact that many leading brands such as Alessi and Le Creuset have exciting ranges in a wide variety of colours and shapes.

In prior decades, whistling tea kettles were an icon from the kitchen. Every kitchen had one, and it was used each day. It took pride of place atop the stove, whether or not this was one fuelled by wood logs or simply a easier gas or electric model. The kettle was used until it may possibly no longer function. From the 18th and 19th century all the way up the 1920's whistling kettles were the norm and we typically made of copper or cast iron, or steel. The whistling kettle would be filled up with water and placed on a stove, whereby after 4-6 minutes or so the hot water would increase the pressure in the kettle until steam would start to go through the whistle mechanism thus giving off a load whistle to alert the person that the water had boiled. The same mechanism is still applied to today's more modern kettles however they have been designed to be safer and many have insulated handles so you do not burn yourself, whistling kettles make great stove top kettles.

Over the years the styles of whistling kettles has changed, some have been made from enamel steel, copper and stainless steel, whist other kettles have been chrome plated. Virtually all whistling kettles have a flat bottom which is important to conduct the heat from the stove, they also have a handle, and a spout, today many of the whistles are attached to the spout to avoid your hands getting burnt from the steam.

Many of the modern styles of whistling kettles can be either used in modern or more traditional kitchen, and they come in a range of exciting designs that make a real feature and talking point for your kitchen and stove. They tend to be very robust and easy to clean, not like the old whistling kettles that over time corroded or leaked due to the inferior materials they were made of.
